Biography: Nawaz Sharif


Nawaz Sharif is a Pakistani politician and businessman who has served as the Prime Minister of Pakistan three times. He was born on December 25, 1949, in Lahore, Pakistan. Sharif comes from a wealthy family and his father was a prominent businessman in Lahore.

Sharif entered politics in the 1970s and was elected to the Punjab Assembly in 1981. He served as the Chief Minister of Punjab from 1985 to 1990 and then again from 1997 to 1999. In 1990, Sharif became the Prime Minister of Pakistan for the first time, but his government was dismissed by the President in 1993. He was re-elected as Prime Minister in 1997 and served until 1999 when he was removed from office in a military coup led by General Pervez Musharraf.

After his removal from office, Sharif went into exile in Saudi Arabia for several years before returning to Pakistan in 2007. He was once again elected as Prime Minister in 2013, but his government was dismissed in 2017 by the Supreme Court of Pakistan over corruption allegations.

Sharif's leadership has been praised for his economic policies and infrastructure development projects, but he has also been criticized for corruption allegations and his government's handling of security issues. In 2018, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison for corruption charges, but he was granted bail and allowed to travel to the UK for medical treatment.

Sharif's political career has been marked by controversy and polarization, and he remains a divisive figure in Pakistani politics. Despite his legal troubles and health issues, he continues to be a prominent political leader in Pakistan and remains influential within his political party, the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz).
